Performing Arts
Dance
Dance is a creative process. Here at KUA we support students who are rigorously pursuing the discipline as well as those who wish to inhabit a happy and integrated body and mind. We celebrate dancers here as movers, creators, scholars, and storytellers. The program is designed to expose students and the wider community to dance as an artform, as a language of communication and expression fundamental to all cultures. We invite all bodies to come learn and communicate through the language of dance with collaboration and empathy.
Coursework
Students work directly with faculty to challenge and expand their technical range. While all roads lead to performance, students can participate both during the class day and every afternoon in Dance Activity and Dance Ensemble. Located close to Dartmouth College, we take full advantage of masterclasses and performances offered through the Hopkins Center for the Arts at Dartmouth and bring guests artists from across the country to campus to enrich our program.
We are honored to be part of the National Honor Society for Dance Arts (NHSDA). This organization identifies "honor students (grades 11 & 12) for nomination to the NHSDA Artistic Merit, Leadership and Academic Achievement Award, one of the highest honor programs for dance in the United States."
KUA is proud to have two current students inducted in the NHSDA: Annabelle '24 and Hanna '24. In addition, last year, Anna '23, who is now attending California State University Long Beach for dance, was inducted and graduated with honors from KUA.
Performance
Our two annual mainstage performances and multiple smaller events provide a rich opportunity for students to work collaboratively and individually to find their voices, hone their technical skills, and stretch their imaginations. Performances feature original choreography created by dance faculty, students, and visiting artists in a variety of styles and techniques.
