The Junior Varsity teams at Kimball Union Academy are dedicated to teaching fundamental skills, fostering athletic growth, and creating the foundation for future success as Wildcat student-athletes. Traveling to Northfield Mount Hermon with a short squad, Kimball Union Academy’s boys JV1 basketball team showed grit, poise, and resilience in a thrilling 61–60 road victory on Saturday afternoon.
The game was one of streaks from start to finish. Kimball Union came out sharp and energetic despite being shorthanded, building a first-half lead that stretched to 14 points at one stage. Northfield Mount Hermon responded with a strong push of its own late in the half, trimming the deficit to six by the break, with KUA holding a slim halftime advantage.
Momentum swung again in the second half as NMH went on a run and briefly took control, opening up a nine-point lead. Rather than pressing, the Wildcats stayed composed, locked in defensively, and chipped away possession by possession. Their defensive effort down the stretch set the stage for a dramatic finish.
With time winding down and the score tight, Myles Boston delivered the final blow, knocking down the game-winning shot at the buzzer to secure a hard-earned 61–60 win for Kimball Union Academy.
Eli Modzeleski led the Wildcats with 16 points, while Boston finished with 14, including the decisive basket. Bryson Morgan added 12 points, Adi Lesbek scored seven, and Henry Sullivan chipped in seven. Michael Ho, Jason Wang, and Lucas Yang each added two points in a balanced team effort.
Kimball Union Academy returns home next, hosting Tilton on Wednesday, February 4, in Alumni Gym. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:30 pm.
Second-Quarter Surge Fuels Kimball Union Academy JV1 Past Holderness, 60–40
After a slow, feeling-out first quarter, the Kimball Union Academy JV1 boys basketball team flipped the switch defensively in the second quarter and never looked back, rolling past the Holderness School JV squad, 60–40, at home.
KUA held a slim 13–9 edge after the opening quarter, with both teams settling into the pace of the game. The difference came in the second, where Kimball Union Academy’s defensive intensity changed everything. Stops turned into transition opportunities, the ball moved well offensively, and the lead quickly grew. By halftime, KUA had opened up a commanding 32–17 advantage.
From there, the game was firmly in Kimball Union Academy’s control. The JV1 squad stayed locked in on the defensive end and continued to share the ball, steadily extending the lead through the second half and closing out a convincing 60–40 win.
Henry Sullivan led the way with a game-high 24 points, providing a consistent offensive spark throughout the afternoon. Myles Boston finished with 10 points, while Eli Modzeleski added nine. Nate Gabin and Jason Wang each chipped in four, with additional scoring from Adi Lesbek (3), Cole Carroll (2), Cash Catlin (2), and Zach Jaffe (2), highlighting a balanced team effort.
Kimball Union Academy is back on the road next, traveling on Saturday the 30th to face Northfield Mount Hermon School. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m.
Kimball Union Academy JV1 Boys’ Basketball Earns Win Over Phillips Exeter Academy
The Kimball Union Academy JV1 Boys’ Basketball team opened strong against Phillips Exeter Academy, jumping out to a quick 10–0 lead. Exeter responded with a push of its own, tying the game at 12–12 by the end of the first quarter.
A big defensive effort in the second quarter helped KUA take control, heading into halftime with a 30–17 advantage. From there, the Wildcats cruised, pulling away for a convincing 61–36 victory in Alumni Gym.
