KUA (0) v Vermont Academy (4)

Boys Varsity Soccer Falls to Vermont Academy, 0–4
Kimball Union hosted Vermont Academy on Wednesday and dropped a 0–4 decision in a match the visitors controlled the game. VA dictated the pace, forcing the Wildcats into a defensive posture and keeping the ball in the KUA half for long stretches of both periods.
Despite the territorial imbalance, KUA generated looks on the counter. Sophomore striker Jackson was the focal point of the attack and found space on a handful of occasions, supported on the flank by PG left winger Calvin, whose service created the Wildcats’ most promising sequences of the afternoon. The final ball just wasn’t there on the day.
The story of the match, though, was the back line. Freshman Sebastian and senior Phuc were outstanding at centerback, absorbing wave after wave of pressure and repeatedly stepping in front of dangerous service. In front of them, sophomore Wes was tireless at defensive midfield, breaking up play and buying his defenders time to recover their shape.
Senior captain and goalkeeper Ollie turned in a performance that kept the scoreline respectable. One misjudgment led to Vermont Academy’s second goal, but Ollie answered with four exceptional saves, each of which denied a clean look at goal and prevented the match from getting away entirely.
KUA travels to Proctor Academy on Friday, October 16, facing their neighbors on the road during Proctor’s Family Weekend — a hostile environment and a chance for the Wildcats to turn Wednesday’s defensive effort into a full ninety-minute performance.
