Navigating College Admissions with Jacques Steinberg

At Family Weekend, KUA will host Jacques Steinberg, New York Times best-selling author of The College Conversation: A Practical Companion for Parents to Guide Their Children Along the Path to Higher Education.
With a myriad of options, fluctuating requirements, and the pressure to stand out in a competitive landscape, students and their families often find themselves overwhelmed. Steinberg will be on hand for a candid discussion of practical strategies for parents to support their children in mapping a path through the college application process.

Steinberg will be joined by Gunnar Olson, KUA’s veteran director of college advising, who will discuss the targeted and tailored supports that he and colleagues provide to families throughout the application process.

Topics will include: helping your child explore the question of “Who am I?” a critical, early step in the college process; establishing boundaries and guardrails between the respective roles of applicants, parents (and counselors, too); researching and assembling a college list; understanding testing, essays, recommendations, and other components of the college application, and an introduction to the holistic admissions review process.

Steinberg is a New York Times best-selling author and longtime, award-winning Times journalist whose knowledge of — and passion for — college access, equity, affordability, readiness and success has more recently led to roles as a senior leader, communications strategist, adviser and board member for several national nonprofit organizations.

The event takes place during Family Weekend on Friday, October 18 at 1 p.m. in Hayes Auditorium.
