Assistant Director/Admission Counselor, July '25

Position Summary: This role assists with all responsibilities of the enrollment operation, including but not limited to interviewing, recruitment and marketing, travel, meeting with educational consultants and school placement personnel, corresponding with families and consultants, and evaluate applications.  The job is a 12-month position. The Assistant Director of Admission/Admission Counselor will actively support and fulfill KUA’s mission “to create a deep sense of belonging for every member of our community. Through intentionally designed experiences and challenges, our students develop the knowledge, voice, and character to live with purpose and integrity.”
 
Organizational Relationships:  The Assistant Director of Admission or Admission Counselor reports to the Director of Enrollment Management.
 
ABOUT THE POSITION
 
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Strong sense of initiative to identify and engage new opportunities that move the collective work of the admission office forward.
  • Demonstrated interest and experience in diversity and inclusion efforts.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and project management skills.
  • A demonstrated ability to write for multiple audiences, managing competing assignments and media.
  • A commitment to process and organization, and an ability to manage large tasks independently.
  • A comfort level to speak in front of a variety of audiences including large and diverse groups.
  • Interview, counsel and correspond with prospective students and their families. 
  • Read applications and serve on the Admission Committee with other admission office staff and faculty for the purpose of reviewing and evaluating applicants. 
  • Travel significantly to recruit prospective students for a minimum of four weeks not consecutively.  Represent the school at admission fairs, middle school and educational consultant visits, conferences, and school hosted events.  KUA enrolls students from 24 states and 23 countries, and this position will be expected to work with the Director of Enrollment Management to identify and cultivate an admissions territory and robust travel schedule.
  • Serving as an advisor for current Kimball Union students. 
  • Evening (residential life) and Saturday responsibilities may be required.   
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
 
Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree with a deep commitment to the success of an independent boarding/day school.
  • Commitment to equity and inclusion.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, including public speaking.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, engaging work environment.
  • Collaborative and creative team member.
  • Affinity for working in education.
  • Able to adapt to an ever-changing daily schedule.
  • The ability to operate standard office equipment.  Including pertinent software applications; master of Microsoft Office; website technology, database systems, and Finalsite Enrollment experience a plus.
